The *big* announcement of the remaining Top 15 candidates is less than two hours away now. How have I been passing the time? I took out my deck of cards (I’ve had the same deck of pink Little Twin Star cards since I was a kid) and started playing the fortune game.
I haven’t played this game for a while now but it’s supposed to tell you what’s going to happen to you in the coming week and I’m curious, so I thought I’d give it a try.
How to Play
- Shuffle your deck either by spreading the cards out on a table and mixing them or by shuffling them one pile on top of the other — always bottom half on top of top half (don’t do the fancy shuffle with the two piles shuffling through each other).
- Once you’re sure the deck is well shuffled, clear your mind and think of the phrase “What is going to happen to me this week?” Think of nothing else. While you’re doing this, split the deck and put the top half under the bottom half. Do this three times.
- From the top of the deck, line the cards out. First seven in a row from left to right, and then six below it, then five and so forth until one (see picture).
- Now take a card from the bottom of the deck and place it on top of the deck with the number facing up. If you see a card on the bottom of the rows of lined cards that is either one card above or one card below the card you have just drawn, take it and put it on the top of your deck. Continue like this each time until you finish your cards. For example: You have drawn a 5 and there is a 6 on the bottom of your lined cards. Take the 6 and put it on top of the 5. If there is a 5 or a 7 on the table, take one of those and put it on top of the 6 etc. If you draw a card and it doesn’t have any cards directly above or below it on the bottom of the table, draw another card.
- Hopefully, you will have cleared all the cards originally lined on your table before you finish drawing your cards. If you have run out of cards to draw, start over from the beginning.
- If you still have cards left over to draw from the pile, start drawing them until they’re all gone. You should count the number of cards you have by saying “1. Happy 2. Angry 3. Sad 4. Happy”… and so forth (happy, angry, sad, happy) until they’re all gone. The last feeling you chant with a card will be how you will be feeling in the coming week.
- Now take the bottom and top card from your pile and place it in a new pile. If the cards match (ex. 5 and 5), put them aside. If they don’t match, continue to pile them up. Do this until you run out of cards and then repeat two more times.
- Once you have finished repeating step 7 a total of three times, look at the cards you have set aside (the doubles) to interpret your future.
