So I’m Pretty Sure I Suck at Pottery

Pottery TurtleI went to a first timer’s pottery class on Saturday with a friend. I had thought we’d go in and make whatever we wanted with the help of an instructor. Well, not so much. We were supposed to make a cup first and then a bowl next (Japanese style). I went along and made the cup but I got bored waiting for instructions when we first started making the bowl so I started playing around with the clay and water reenacting the scene in ‘Ghost’ with Demi Moore.I don’t think the instructor was all too impressed. :P Apparently if you put that much water on the clay you weaken it to the point that it can’t be used to make a bowl. So I had to start over again.

By then I was pretty behind so I just started making whatever I wanted with the clay and came up with the turtle in the picture. It looked a lot better in my head than it looks in real life. In case you can’t tell, it’s supposed to be a turtle stuck on its back with a “uh-oh” expression and reads “Hire Anny Chih” in the middle. I was going to write “Hire Anny Chih for the Best Job in the World” but there wasn’t enough room.

I wish I had a better picture of it but I didn’t have my regular camera so I used the camera on my phone. I thought we’d be able to take our pottery home that day but it takes a couple days to fire and won’t be ready for another two or three weeks because they’re going to glaze it afterwards. I choose a nice green glaze and I’ll post a picture once I get the turtle back. I think I’ll call him Fred.

That’s one funky turtle you got there!

    :)

(Kind of reminds me of Finding Nemo)

I will call him Fred. And he will be my Squishy.

Great site Jonathan! I’m a little jealous right now because I really want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. A friend just came back from Tanzania and the pictures are just amazing. *sigh*
