Hey world!
My video application for the Best Job in the World has now been uploaded to the official website! HOORAY! I’ve been constantly checking the website, IslandReefJob youtube account, Tourism Queensland’s twitter account and facebook account for the past week so I’m ridiculously excited that it’s finally up!
You can view the video by clicking on the youtube video below. Please remember to give me a five-star “awesome” rating so I have a better chance of getting hired.
I’d love to get feedback from you on the video application and what I can do to better my chances of getting hired. You can post your comments on this page.
Thanks for viewing!
Well done Anny! Best video by far from the few I sampled and the site is great too! You must keep me up to date and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get the job!
Best as always,
Jenness
Thank you Jenness!
WOW is the word! Your video is pretty impressive and so far this is one of the best I have watched! Well done for this website too, did you create it on this occasion to support your candidature? All the best for your candidature Anny!
Cheers,
Lizzy
Thank you Lizzy!
I had the domain name for a few years but didn’t really do anything with it. It used to be a travel blog where my family and friends could check on me. The site was re-vamped for this job application, as was one of the walls in my room (the blue one in the video with the bubbles I painted).
Great video! I’m sad to see it’s at 3 stars on islandreef.com because it deserves better but grr, it’s not letting me vote!! I’ll try and check back. Good luck (:
Hi Zellie,
The islandreefjob website doesn’t seem to have the same ratings as youtube. If you double click on the video on the islandreefjob.com website it will take you to the youtube account where you can vote. Thanks for your support!
You’ve been linked at http://www.reef-job.net
Good Luck!
Not gonna lie… your video is so good it upsets me.

I honestly think many of the video applications using just a handheld camera have a great chance of winning (there are some great personalities out there) which is why I’m putting in so much effort into my application. Good luck to you!
Next time more boobies!
Truly impressive media skills and I’m convinced that you are adventurous. However, I am not convinced that you have what it takes to feed the fish!
hahaha Thanks Gabe!
It’s true that when I was a kid I had a few goldfish that didn’t survive but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. My last pet was a hermit crab named Jacque who lived with me for nearly five years. He was a very good crab (and smart too!).
That was a great video Anny. I think you deserve to win.
The website is also fantastic, did you design it yourself?
I hope you win this competition and you can see how beautiful our country is.
Hi Julian,
I thought up the look of the website by going through all of Tourism Queensland’s media releases (they seem to like blue and bubbles), and put together the initial mock-up using Photoshop CS3. My brother-in-law helped me make the picture into web reality using WordPress.
I really hope I get the job and can explore Australia in its entirety! I’ve already begun to chart out a travel plan after the six-month contract to visit the Northern Territory, New South Wales, and of course Tasmania. I haven’t finished reading about Western and Southern Australia yet. Which part of Australia are you from?
Hey Anny,
Happened to stumble upon your video while checking out a fren of mines… You did a spendid job on yours btw! You definitely have my vote, all 5 stars!
Let us know of the outcome of it, yeah! In the meantime, fingers crossed!
PS. i liked the last bit abt the fish not talking back… hilarious!
Hi Lavina,
Thank you for the rating!! I’m glad you liked the blooper at the end. My family cracks up everytime we see that bit (and so does my niece who, like most kids, loves to watch videos of herself).
Hey there Anny,
As an entrant myself, I wanted to offer my best wishes to you and congratualte you on a superb video entry. Best one Ive seen so far and sure to catch the judges eye. Im still waiting for clear skys to finish my entry. Good luck to you and hope to see you on Hamiliton.
Hi Marty,
Thanks for your support! I hope to see you in May as well
Fantastic video.…it made me laugh!!! If you don’t go as one of the finalists, there is no justice in the world. Hope to see you on the island!
Thanks Tannette! Remember to vote for the video too
I need all the support I can get in order to make it to the finals!
Hi again, well you already know how I feel about the video, but how do I rate it on the official site? You mentioned that it allows you to rate the video at random.….… I’ve checked back repeatedly and have only seen “Rating” with the current star rating. I check the newer applications at it says “Rate me”, giving me the option to rate the video.
Not to mention the fact I wish to rectify that pitiful 3 stars rating that is currently displayed with your video… is there someone you can contact about this issue?
Cheers, and best of luck!
Hi Belinda,
I’ve messaged Tourism Queensland about it and I’m waiting for a reply.
The official website (www.islandreefjob.com) seems to be pretty glitchy when it comes to rating. Some videos allow rating on the site (signified by yellow stars that light up when you hover over the rating scale) but others like mine seem to stay grey and unchanging. Right now I think the only way to rate my video is through Youtube.
Thanks for trying to vote Belinda! Please try again in a day or two. Hopefully the glitches will be fixed by then. *crossing fingers*
Great video, Anny! Good luck!!!
Thanks Sandra!
Great video Anny.…tell Belinda and anyone else (oh…I just did) that when rating someone on youtube…if it is not allowing you to rate…make sure you have logged on. If you don’t log on…you can’t rate or comment. Hope this helps.
Blessings, Burt
Thanks for the tip Burt! I changed the wording on my front page to let people know they should be logged on.
Checking back! I was able to rate it by using Internet Explorer – Firefox won’t work for whatever reason. Hope that helps anyone else who was having problems though sometimes I do have to refresh IE or it’ll temporarily not allow me to vote.
AHHH!!! THANK YOU ZELLIE!!!! I’m so excited! I took your advice and was FINALLY able to vote for my video!! *MUAH!*
Hey Anny!
Carrie (my wife) and I watched your video and LOVED it. It was one of the first videos we saw that made us think “Uh-oh.” Which is to say that your video really rocks!
We’re still waiting for ours to be posted…
Do you blog your travels anywhere? If your sense of humor is anything like the “hello?” from your audition video, it would be (I think) a lot of fun to read about your other experiences…
Much success to you. Awesome video!
Warmest,
Jonathan Kraft

Some of my old travel blog entries are still on this site but buried under all the new posts. Unfortunately, I never got around to posting my pictures with them. I’ve had them on a WordPress Gallery for a while now but choosing which ones to cut when you have over 1,000 to choose from (I’m a bit trigger happy when travelling) has proven to be a rather difficult task.
Send me a link to your video once it’s posted! I want to check it out.
You did a great job. I love to apply too but still has no idea how to create it. I think you will be one of the 50 short-list for sure!!!
good luck and keep in touch.
Thanks Kate!
You can always apply with a simple video camera. Most digital cameras can produce really good quality videos as well. We used Premier Pro CS3 for the editing. I wouldn’t go out and buy it if you don’t already have it though because it’s not exactly cheap software. Best to ask around and see if you can borrow someone’s computer for a day.
Really liked your video Anny, I’ve also applied. Would feel happy though if you got shortlisted! very creative!
Thanks Beth! Hope to see you on Hamilton Island
G’Day Anny. Wow, what a great video and blog you have. You make me very proud to be from Canada. I was thinking of applying for the job myself, but I don’t have a chance against you. You better get a bigger backpack because you are definately heading down under. And you will love it there, I spent one unforgetable year there myself. Please keep me in mind if you need an assistant when you get offered The Best Job In The World. Way to go girl! Take care, Laurie from Calgary
Thanks Laurie!
Do you have a travel blog? I love to see pictures from everyone’s travels.
And yes, I do have a bigger pack (35 Litre) for longer trips. I like to travel light. I once met someone who was travelling through all of Europe (West and East), past St. Petersburg through to Irkutsk in Siberia and then down through Mongolia and then China until reaching home in Australia for one year with a 25 Litre pack. I was very impressed.
Impressive video & application… blows the rest out of the water (oops, no explosions intended.…gotta be careful of those tropical reefs). So anyway, I hope you enjoy meeting my guy when you’re both in Queensland for your top-11 interview finals.
Thanks Kate! Btw, who’s your guy?
I meant to suggest… how about an RSS feed link for your site here? WordPress can do that…
Good idea. I had assumed there was already an RSS feed link on here since most WP themes have them. I’ll look into it. Thanks!
Great job on the video, Anny. Best one I’ve seen so far. I’d send you my link, but it’s been 10 days and counting! Meantime, I’ve started a blog about it here: http://erikrolfsen.blogspot.com/ Best of luck!
Thanks Erik!
It usually takes a while for the videos to be posted (I’ve heard anywhere between 8 and 20 days) but it seems like they’ve sped up the process this past week.
And remember, if you ever want to cover another applicant at The Province, you know who to call lol
Hey Anny!!!
Awsome energy! I hope your video makes it into the final selection, I’ll need some healthy competition
. Are you a journalist at The Province?
Best of Luck!
B
Thanks for the comment Brendan!
No, I’m not a journalist at The Province. I’m guessing you thought that because of my comment to Erik. He works at The Province.
Where are you from B?
Hey Anny!
I’m from Toronto. Love your submission, very well done. I work in PR as well but slowly getting away from that field and moving into producing videos/commericals.
You def tell your story well… After viewing the other submissions, I’d have to say yours is in the top 10, or should be…
You work in agency or client side of the MRKT bus?
Cheers and best of Luck!
B
Hey Brendan,
I actually don’t work in either agency or client side. If I were to choose, I would work for a not-for-profit. I’m still looking for my dream job (you know, after the best job in the world).
cool video anny, very passionate~ you totally deserve the job~
Good luck and keep in touch
cuz,
Tina@Beijing
Thanks Tina!!
Great video Anny. When you look at all the other videos, you realise most of the other applicants have missed the point about what this job is really all about. I gave you 5 stars and hope you get the job. Best wishes.
Bob
Thank you Bob! I need all the support I can get — especially during March when the voting will count towards picking the 11th “wildcard” finalist.
Well, even if you don’t get “the best job in the world”, that should help you land _something_…Good work! Even if this doesn’t work out, good luck finding that dream job!
Thanks Mike!
Wow..Are you professional explorer and traveler? Your video is awesome! The message is so sharp and clear! I wish you all the best for the job and of cause, I will be fully supporting you!
Thanks Daren!
I’m not a professional explorer or traveler. I only wish I was!
Awesome video girl!
Check out mine it rocks– literally!

Thanks Paul! I’d never heard of a nature communications degree before. Is it the same as a communications degree but with an environmental twist?
Hi Anny,
Great video! Hopefully both of us will make it to Hamilton Island this May. Exciting! All the best, Marcella.
Thanks Marcella!

Glad to see you’ve got a lot of comments coming in.
