Currently staying at Bundaberg Backpackers and waiting for the week to end before I can finally move on. I would not recommend it in any situation. Windowless rooms (in the bus section), terrible appliances, generally dirty, fridges are bordering on a health risk, in serious need of a refit in all areas, and bed bugs. Not to mention that the owner, his wife and receptionist are all dreadful people. They really do use any excuse to keep your deposit ($50). Even asking for a blanket I got the third degree. Nice long queues for the 3-4 pieces of cooking utensils and the 3 & 1/2 showers.

I would rather live in an open field, filled with creepy crawlies than stay here any longer than necessary. When the majority of the work is awful and badly paid, and the hostel you stay at is equally as terrible, you have to ask yourself why you do it. I was also recommended this place by Harvest Trail and I fully intent on giving them hell.

Do not ever stay here.

interesting bit of investigative reporting, Anny
I can imagine people saying "uh-oh, lookout, boys, it's that Canuck gal snooping around" amid photo flashes as she captures more evidence...
Yeah, the only way to substantiate those allegations about the owner's treatment of workers would be to actually stay there. Cant really tell whats going on inside since they look ok from the outside and they wont let you check out the rooms...but judging from the replies of actual tenants it looks like the transgressions are an occassional thing depending on the owner's mood at the time.
